The most recent high-profile example in Valencia County is Belen’s Municipal Judge Kathy Savilla, who retired late last year and was appointed back to her seat after a 90-day “retirement” vacation.

Larry Barker did a hard-hitting expose on statewide double-dipping that may have local implications.

New Mexico Attorney General Gary King is shown for a few seconds saying his office is interested in hearing about cases of double-dipping. One local group, Our Tomorrow: For a Better Belen, is ahead of the game, having filed a complaint on the issue with his office in late December.
